Everyone needs a childhood hero. Someone you strive to emulate, whose actions and ideals represent everything you wish to be someday. Adored by countless other, mortal human beings, these individuals approach superhero status in the minds of their admirers. Something every kid wishes he or she could be.
Boy do I wish Kenny Powers was around when I was a kid! I was a pitcher, so the arm like a cannon thing is certainly appealing, but all the rest, that’s what I’m talking about! The huge paychecks, the multi-million dollar endorsements, mullet with endless curls, leopard-spotted jetski, incredible flameout and subsequent fall from grace - the list never ends!
Just because I’m not a kid anymore, doesn’t mean I can’t still have a hero though, right? Don’t get me wrong, working for the coolest t-shirt company on the planet ain’t half bad! But, if I could be Kenny Powers, even just for one day, it’d be like a dream come true.
Alas, I’ll have to settle for living vicariously through his HBO series Eastbound and Down, which returns for Season 2 this Sunday:
Like any hero who finds himself hitting rock bottom, he’s pulled himself up by his bootstraps – and cornrows – and is making a comeback, a hard comeback apparently, in the Mexican baseball league.
Now maybe I’ll never get to be like Kenny Powers, but at least I can look like him with this sweet new t-shirt that just arrived! And in honor of the “Season Dos” premiere this Sunday, y’all get 20% off our Kenny Powers t-shirts all weekend – because everyone needs a hero.
