Pumped for Polish Horseshoes

This weekend I played a really cool spring/summer game for the first time.  You may have heard of/played it before, but I’d never heard of it until I came to Rochester.  It’s called Polish Horseshoes.  Basically, you have two poles set up with an empty beer on the top of each.  There are two teams and each team stands behind their pole/beer.  Each team takes turns throwing a frisbee at the other team’s pole/beer.  The point of the game is to get to 21 first.  If a team hits the pole/beer and it falls, then that team get two points, but if the other team catches the beer bottle, they get 2 points.  A team can also earn points by having the other team miss frisbee tosses deemed as “catchable”.  The one catch (pun intended!) to the game is that you have to have a drink in one hand so that you only have one hand to catch with.

I have to admit, I am pretty terrible at catching a frisbee.  I am also not the best at throwing a frisbee, although I did manage to knock the beer bottle off twice and once was even on my first throw!  However, the majority of my throws were pretty much in slow motion.

The game is super fun though…it doesn’t require too much energy so I think it will be a great game to play when it gets really warm out.  Next time you’re at a cookout, I recommend asking if anyone is interesting in striking up a game of Polish Horseshoes!
