So I’m trying to give up soda, at least for the most part. I’ve tried this before and I usually end up doing pretty well with it…until I press snooze on my alarm clock one extra time in the morning and don’t have time to make myself coffee. When this happens, I think I’ll be fine and then a couple hours into my day, usually around 11, the fact that I didn’t have my morning caffeine fix kicks in and my body decides it wants to go to sleep. When this happens, I simply head to our work fridge which is always stocked with Mountain Dew and Diet Pepsi and I easily cure my caffeine need. Then I decide that I will just start my no soda rule the next week. However, I recently discovered that our water cooler has a hot water button on it and this makes the water come out hot enough to melt instant coffee. I have a instant coffee stash that I now keep at my desk, along with a creamer in the fridge, should the need arise.
I’ve determined that it’s not even really the taste of soda that I crave, except for a choice few like Cherry Coke and Dr. Pepper, it’s more the carbonation that I like, so I think it should be fairly easy to do this. On special occasions I’ll still drink soda and when I’m eating things like Taco Bell and pizza, obviously. Hopefully I can actually stick with the no soda for-the-most-part goal this time. Wish me luck…and lots of instant coffee!
